Water parks in Hawaii

Proclamation
Hawai‘i is blessed with world-renowned beaches and an ocean environment ideal for various leisure opportunities. However, a lack of basic knowledge of water safety can be dangerous, and in some instances, deadly.
The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals, the National Recreation & Park Association and the World Waterpark Association are organizations that represent businesses, individuals and agencies involved in bringing safe, enjoyable aquatic activities to the American public, from home pools, waterparks, oceans, beaches and public swimming and water recreation facilities.
Throughout the month of May, National Water Safety Month will be observed with educational programs, public service announcements, business promotions and the distribution of water-safety-themed materials designed to prevent drowning and water-related illnesses and injuries. In a collaborative effort, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals, the National Recreation & Park Association and the World Waterpark Association will work to promote ongoing public education on safer water practices, including swimming lessons, the buddy system and parental supervision, as well as reminders to always follow posted rules and be “water aware.” In our state, the Hawai‘i Recreation & Park Association is serving as the lead local sponsor of Water Safety Month, hosting a variety of events in May.
THEREFORE, I, LINDA LINGLE, Governor, and I, JAMES R. “DUKE” AIONA, JR., Lieutenant Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, do hereby proclaim May 2009, as
WATER SAFETY MONTH
in Hawai‘i, and encourage our citizens to educate themselves and abide by the water-safety rules set forth by trained and certified aquatics professionals.
DONE at the State Capitol, in the Executive Chambers, Honolulu, State of Hawai‘i, this first day of May 2009.

Visitor Information

Wet’n’Wild Hawaii combines all the fun and excitement of the some of the world’s latest water slides and leisure pools with a shaded twenty-nine acre plush tropical surrounding. Whether you choose to laze in the shallows of the Hawaiian Waters wave pool or take on the mighty Tornado, at Wet’n’Wild Hawaii, we are committed to providing a full day of “splashtacular” fun and relaxation for everyone!
Tips for a great day!

• Always have a designated meeting place for those in your party if you become separated
• Remember to apply sunscreen regularly. Hawaiian rays are deceptively intense due to the cool ocean climate. Protective clothing, such as hats, tshirts, and rash vests, are all helpful in preventing sunburn.
• Do not bring valuables if possible. If you must, keep all valuables in a secure area. Please do not leave valuables in your car or in bags unless they are kept out of site.
• Ensure you stay hydrated throughout the day. Water and other beverages are available for purchase throughout the park.

Safety Guidelines and Park Rules

To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for everyone, we ask that you adhere to the following safety guidelines and park rules:
• Glassware, sharp knives and implements may not be brought into the park
• Coolers, food, alcohol or beverages may not be brought into the park. Exceptions are made for infants and those with special medical needs. Approach Wet’n’Wild gate staff for more details.
• You may leave and re-enter the park by having your hand stamped as you exit. For your safety, barbecues and alcohol are not permitted on the parking lot (or park premises). Picnic tables and shade pavilions are available on first-come, first-serve basis.
• For safety reasons, if you are unable to comply with the correct riding procedures for any attraction, you will not be permitted to ride. This may include guests that have restricted movement due to a plaster cast or guests that do not meet height requirements. Consult the lifeguard or ride signage at each attraction for further information.
• Eyewear is not permitted on any waterslide
• Water socks and sandals are permitted throughout the park
• Obey all lifeguard, ride attendant and park staff instructions during your time in the park
• Some rides should not be ridden by pregnant women and those with heart or medical conditions due to the turbulent and thrilling nature of the ride.
• Swimwear with exposed metal (decorative or other) is prohibited on rides and attractions
• Never swim alone – swim with a buddy at all times
• All children under 12 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times
• For your safety, Wet’n’Wild Hawaii reserves the right to search any bags brought onto the premises.
• There is absolutely no running permitted in the park. Watch where you walk as water park walkways can become slippery when wet
• No personal floatation devices may be brought into the park
• Due to the inherent nature of the rides and attractions, participants assume risk of injury

VILLAGE ROADSHOW ACQUIRES WATER PARK IN HAWAII
Opportunity to apply successful Gold Coast formula to grow business
Taps into large local, US and international tourist base
Village Roadshow Limited (VRL) today announced that it has concluded an agreement to acquire
Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, the premier water park on the main island of Hawaii.
VRL will pay US$27 million to acquire the assets of the business which will be funded out of VRL’s
existing cash reserves and undrawn credit facilities. Subject to satisfactory completion of consents,
approvals and regulatory requirements it is anticipated that the transaction will close in early May.
Announcing the acquisition, VRL Managing Director, Graham Burke said: “The acquisition of
Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park is in line with our strategic focus on theme parks.”
“The existing park will provide the fundamental infrastructure around which to create a world class,
family oriented water park experience in a spectacular 30 acre (12 hectare) tropical setting, to which
we can apply our highly successful Gold Coast formula that has created one of the world’s most
successful water parks.”
“We like the water park space because it is for families what a day at the beach was when we were
kids, but there is more to do and there aren’t nasty stingers or sharks. It is also the perfect meeting
place for teens and young adults.”
“In that context, Hawaii is a terrific market with a wonderful all year round climate attracting a large
tourist base, including the significant US mainland interstate travel market, as well as drawing on a
significant local population.”
“Importantly, the business is well positioned in the growth corridor of Kapolei with major growth and
development planned in the area.”
The acquisition will be EPS accretive in its first year.
VRL is Australia’s largest theme park owner operator with the best and most recognisable brands on
Queensland’s Gold Coast. For the year ended 30 June 2007 VRL theme parks entertained more than
4.2 million guests at its iconic Gold Coast theme parks.
When VRL acquired its Gold Coast water park in 1989, attendance levels were approximately
137,000. With innovation and marketing, Wet ‘n’ Wild Water World achieved more than one million
attendances in 2007, making it one of the highest in the world.
